Who are Caledonian Credit Union?

Caledonian Credit Union operates as a financial co-operative and was established on 27th November 1998. Having extended its common bond (geographical area) several times, it now covers most of East, Central and Southern Scotland including the Scottish Borders. Anyone who lives or works in these areas or whose employer’s head office is in the area, are able to benefit from the services we offer.

The Credit Union offers financial services in the form of savings accounts for adults and juniors, affordable loans, free bereavement benefit on savings and loans, and prepaid debit cards.

What is a credit union?

A credit union is a not for profit organisation offering affordable financial services in the form of savings accounts and low-cost affordable loans to its members.

Caledonian Credit Union is a responsible lender. We will treat our members fairly and never knowingly increase indebtedness.

Who controls the credit union?

The members elect a Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting, so the members control the credit union.

Is the credit union regulated?

All credit unions are authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority.

Caledonian Credit Union Ltd is a registered society under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014. This Act replaces the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts 1965-68 although reference is still made to the Credit Union Act 1979 in the PRA Rulebook.
